When Mount Helmos turns white, Kalavryta becomes one of the warmest winter escapes in Greece. Skiing in the morning, a stroll through town in the afternoon and a fireplace in the evening at the Wild & Warm apartment — that is winter here.
Skiing and snowboarding on Mount Helmos
The Kalavryta Ski Centre lies on Mount Helmos, around 15 km by road from town, and offers skiing and snowboarding during the winter season, from December to April.
Snowmobiles and sledding
Not a skier? The ski centre also has organised snowmobile and sledding routes — a fun way for the whole family to enjoy the snow.
Before you head up the mountain
Travel time depends on weather and road conditions. Check access and winter equipment requirements before leaving.
Winter experiences nearby
The rack railway in the snow
The station is around 60 m from the apartment. The Vouraikos Gorge dressed in white, seen from the train window, is one of the most beautiful sights of winter.
A quiet day in town
In the centre, on foot, you will find the pedestrian street, the cafés and the Holocaust Museum, which commemorates the massacre of December 1943. For more ideas, see our 2-day weekend itinerary.
A winter day, step by step
Set off early for the ski centre, around 15 km by road, and spend the morning on the slopes. At midday come back to town, which sits at 735 m, for a stroll along the pedestrian street and a warm drink in the cafés. If the weather allows, historic Agia Lavra is only around 7 km away and especially beautiful in the snow. In the evening, the fireplace is waiting for you.
Why stay in an apartment with a fireplace
After a day in the snow, nothing beats coming back to a warm home. Wild & Warm has a wood-burning fireplace, and firewood is included in the price.
Room for the whole group
With 67 m², two bedrooms and two bathrooms, everyone has space to dry their ski gear and unwind. The fully equipped kitchen lets you cook something warm, and the evening ends with mulled wine by the fire.
Helmos views, right in town
From the living room you can see the mountain you skied that day, while staying in the centre, close to everything. Coming from the capital? See how to get from Athens and read the frequently asked questions.
